HEENA MITTAL  JEWELLERY:

Our jewellery is made from 14ct, 18ct or 22ct (carat) gold as well as recycled brass and gold vermeil. Our jewellery is also set with Pearls and semi precious stones.

Gold is a relatively soft metal so care should be taken when wearing and storing gold jewellery items. The higher the carat weight of gold, the softer it is, so we recommend wearing jewellery items (particularly rings) of a similar carat weight together.

Diamonds are the hardest mineral known so they are extremely durable and hardwearing. However, they can be susceptible to damage from hard knocks. Diamonds can also scratch diamonds, so take care when storing diamond jewellery together.

We use a mix of precious and coloured gemstones all of which have their own properties, levels of hardness and care guidelines. When choosing your own gemstone combinations for our customisable jewellery or bespoke pieces, we will advise you of any care guidelines for particularly soft stones.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR JEWLERY

  • Check your jewellery for dirt, marks and scratches regularly.

  • Do not use any abrasive cleaners or chemicals on your jewellery.

  • Gold jewellery can become dull with wear from the moisture and oils from your body. To renew its beautiful lustre and shine, gently rub your jewellery with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using paper towels or rough tissues as these may scratch the surface of the metal.

  • Take extra care when cleaning jewellery set with gemstones.

  • Consulting the Mohs Scale above, any gemstone of 7-1 should be cleaned with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Anything from 8-10 can be cleaned with a soft brush and warm soapy water, making sure to dry thoroughly after cleaning.

  • If you are unsure about how to clean your jewellery, please contact us or a local jeweller for advice.

Pearls are a porous mineral and therefore special care must be taken when storing and wearing pearl jewellery. Pearls should not be stored in an air-tight environment as they benefit greatly from a little moisture so we advise storing them in your original Heena Mittal Jewellery box or a soft pouch. Keep your pearls away from hairspray, perfume, cosmetics, chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and ammonia, as these substances will damage the pearl surface. Make sure to put pearls on after finished spraying perfume or hairspray and putting on makeup.

The Mohs Scale below, lists the gemstone type and its level of hardness – 1 is the softest, 10 is the hardest. If you’re unsure about a particular gemstone and would like more information, please get in touch with our team.
